Topic 3:
Homes for All

Not everyone is fortunate to live in a comfortable home, but there are programs, such as Habitat for Humanity, that work to build affordable housing for people in need. Why is it important to help others find a home, and what are the benefits of building homes for the less fortunate?

Essay Scholarship Contest Rules:

  • Applicant must be a high school senior preparing to enroll at an accredited two or four year college or university in the 2014-2015 school year, or a currently enrolled full time student at an accredited two or four year college or university. Future and current online college students are encouraged to apply.
  • Applicant will be required to show proof of enrollment. College acceptance letters or college transcripts are accepted.
  • Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the U.S.
  • Applicant may submit one (1) essay of their choosing, which must be at least 750 words, but no more than 1,500 words. The essay must be an original work, written exclusively by the applicant.
  • Essays are due Tuesday, August 15th, 2014 by 11:59 p.m. (CST). Submissions after this deadline will not be considered.

Rules & Regulations:

  1. Judging: The winning essay will be judged on the following criteria: content, style, creativity, and how well the winning applicant presents his or her point of view. After the deadline of August 15th, 2014, all new entries will be reviewed by a team of three people at Choice Home Warranty.
  2. Prize: The person who submitted the winning essay will receive a one-time scholarship of $1000 to be used on school related expenses in the form of tuition, fees, books, and on-campus room and board. These funds must be applied to the 2015 academic year. Funds are provided by Choice Home Warranty and will be paid via mail to the accredited college or university of the applicant’s choosing.
  3. Submission of Materials: All scholarship applications must be made through the Choice Home Warranty scholarship form, which can be found above. No hand written letters or hard copy submissions will be accepted. All essays but me submitted in English in a Microsoft Word or PDF format. Choice Home Warranty reserves the right to publish content from the essays submitted.
  4. Eligibility: Current or former Choice Home Warranty employees or immediate family of employees are not eligible for entry. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Applicants must prove they are either about to enroll or are enrolled in school at an accredited two or four year college or university during the 2015 school year.
